Praying With You

Prayer Calendar

SAMS missionaries are serving throughout the world in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific. They are doing faithful ministry in these challenging days with tenacity, flexibility, and dependence on the Lord.

Like all missionaries, SAMS personnel in the field face burdens and affliction. Yet, through it all, they share the message of life and salvation in Jesus, engaging in spiritual warfare against individual and structural sin. Senders play a key role in sharing the burdens of our missionaries as they come before our Lord Jesus Christ in prayer and confession.

The SAMS 6-month Prayer Calendar is designed so that you can pray for all of our missionaries by name each week of the year. A PDF is available for you to print out at home, or you may follow along on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. We are grateful for your prayers and your participation with us in this ancient practice which, despite all else, by God’s grace reflects our dependence on Him alone.

Can we pray for you?

Let us know how we can pray for you. SAMS Staff prays daily during chapel and we would love to lift up any prayer requests or thanksgivings you may have.

Weekly Communal Noonday Prayers

noonday-prayers-sams-community

Every Thursday at Noon EST, the SAMS community, including dozens of missionaries, staff and senders, comes together to pray Noonday prayers via Zoom Cloud Meetings. All Society members (Senders, Missionaries, friends) are welcome to attend.

These prayer calls have been happening weekly since the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Each week, prayer is focused toward a missionary household who is often present to give a live field update. They have continued as attendees find it an encouraging, hopeful and grounding part of the week.

To join us, sign up for reminder emails via our website or by emailing prayer@sams-usa.org.

Missionary Prayer Guide

The Missionary Prayer Guide provides prompts, coupled with corresponding scriptures on areas of missionary life to pray for.

The text is below, or you are welcome to download a more beautiful version with corresponding field photos by clicking to the left.

Call to Prayer

You are participating in the grandest story on earth— featuring a cast of billions:

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10 ESV

John’s vision reflects the ultimate goal — all nations worshipping our Lord God.

Walking in the way of Jesus, SAMS desires His Kingdom come throughout communities across the world, wherever your missionaries go with the good news. This includes our neighborhoods where your missionaries are being sent from. We long for a family across the globe, united in Christ.

Your missionaries are serving throughout Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. They are doing ministry in these challenging days with creativity and flexibility. Many missionaries respond to physical needs of the vulnerable. These beloved people of God continue to struggle to get food, medical care, and educational opportunities for their children.

Many missionaries are facing burdens and afflictions themselves. Yet, through it all, they share His salvation message, engaging in spiritual warfare against individual and structural sin. Senders share the burden as we come before our Lord Jesus Christ through prayer and confession.

We all confront the intractable issues in our world, nation, and communities through prayer. Oswald Chambers, in My Utmost for His Highest, shares:
“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” Will you join your Society in this labor of love for our communities, near and far?

Pray for Health

There are many dangers to health through food, sanitation, and disease. It is not God’s will that sickness strip the mission fields. It is his will that his children have health and strength to carry out his work.

Scriptures to Pray: Deuteronomy 7:15, Psalm 97:10, Isaiah 53:5, John 10:10b

Pray for Travel Protection

There is danger when traveling over narrow roads, in mountains, in areas where safety is not a design consideration, and in bad weather conditions.

Scripture to Pray: Isaiah 43:2

Pray for Protection of Mind

Climate and culture differences and loneliness are all contributing factors which lead to breakdown in the normal functions of the mind. The missionary needs to enter into the provisions promised in Scriptures and enjoy the Lord’s peace.

Scriptures to Pray: Psalm 42:11, Psalm 147:3, John 14:27, Hebrews 4:9-11

Pray for Unity

Differences arise among missionaries especially team ministries and in isolated situations. The missionary needs godly conflict resolution to resolve differences while maintaining gospel witness.

Scripture to Pray: Psalm 133

Pray for Protection of Spirit

Discouragement, and a sense of failure plague those on the front lines. The missionary needs encouragement to resist the powers of darkness.

Scriptures to Pray: Deut. 31:6, Matthew 18:18, James 4:7, 1 Peter 5:8-9
