Shawn "Kelly" GraingerSanta Cruz, Bolivia 011-591-3-341-2816 (home) 011-591-721-66844 (cell) 011-591-3-342-5479 (work) shawngrainger@sams-usa.org Ministry Shawn (or Kelly, as she's known in Santa Cruz) is the youth pastor at Cristo Luz del Mundo (Christ Light of the World) Anglican Church in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, the country's largest and most industrialized city. Her ministry includes mentoring and discipling youth aged 11-25, programming activities for the different age groups within the ministry, mentoring and training potential youth leaders and adult volunteers, and helping the church visualize and prioritize ministry to youth and children. Youth ministry is one of the diocese's targeted strategic initiatives, so she also works with the other youth pastors in the diocese to create a strong Anglican youth community. Such a strong community reaching across regional, racial and class lines is especially important in Bolivia as a testimony to what God can and does do in the hearts of His children. ![]() Call Shawn had been a youth volunteer for six years when she saw a prayer letter from Bishop Frank Lyons stressing the need for youth pastors in Bolivia. She had studied Spanish from the age of seven through university, and since elementary school had a dream of one day living in Latin America. That dream was fomented during several short-term missions to Honduras in college, but the timing wasn't right yet to jump in full time. After working in the "real world" for four years, God finally opened the door to serve him in Santa Cruz and Shawn feels completely fulfilled by the work she gets to be part of. Prayer Challenges Please pray for Shawn as she continues to adjust to Santa Cruz culture and that the Holy Spirit will help her see the culture through God's eyes. Please also pray for Bolivia in the months leading up to national elections, and for the interim president, Eduardo Rodriguez. Please pray that the youth will be able to accept God's love - especially those who have been repeatedly hurt and betrayed by everyone who has ever loved them. Read Latest update |
