September 2012 Prayer Update

Happy 18th! “Happy 18th!” Well, that’s how we would greet you this month if you were in Chile.
Children's Day of Love Except for the "Children's Day of Love" our church is going to have on the 28th, this month we don’t have many special church activities to ask you to pray for. See more below.
Family News Two main stories: Joy has a job and Joshua is coming to Chile. Read more below.
Joel We also have news about Joel. Click on his picture to see a video of him long-boarding. Be sure to see the message at the end of the video!

The 18th
Once again September has arrived and that means flags, food, school programs and all kinds of “foclor”—music, dancing and traditional games. As you may remember the 19th is also a holiday and so this year we are going to have a five-day “weekend.” The Congress made the 17th a “sandwich”—an extra holiday so people can celebrate without that pesky problem called their job. Well, it’s probably more so that people can travel and be with their families. Anyway, sometimes it seems like the whole month of September is dedicated to celebrating Chile.

Children's Day of Love
There is no Cursillo, no Marriage Encounter, Women’s Encounter, Youth Encounter or Children’s Encounter. But do please keep those things in your prayers, because they will be happening in October and November. On Sept.28, we are having a Children’s Day of Love, a Saturday morning with special activities and program for the Sunday school children, Children’s Center kids and friends and neighbors. Please pray for that and for the following day in which the Jesus Club will be in charge of the church service. Heidi was asked to preach, with a focus on the family. We would value your prayers for this.

Family News
Jocelyn continues to enjoy gymnastics and is a happy 6th grader. She is doing especially well in Creative Writing.

Joy got a full-time job at Gelatos, a coffee shop. Her boss is Denise, a lady from our church. She works Monday through Saturday. Joy was looking for a job and Denise was looking for workers. So that worked out well! The first week with 8 hours a day on her feet, 6 days a week, was rough but now she’s getting more accustomed to it and enjoys the work. She makes the various coffees, serves ice cream, brings the servers their orders, etc.

The other family news is that Joshua is coming back to Chile, and he will arrive Sept.17, the day before the 18th festivities. He may get work at Gelatos also. At least the boss would like to talk with him. She needs more people and she would prefer workers who are committed to Christ.

Joshua has applied to Moody Bible Institute, to begin in January. He was eligible to apply for second semester acceptance because he earned credits when he was doing Moody’s First Year On-line Program 2 years ago. Please pray about this, that the best and most-useful course of action can be taken. Not everything turned out like we might have wished while he was in the U.S., but overall we think it was a very important time of learning, and it was not a waste of time or resources. It was part of his learning how to be an independent, functioning adult with Asperger Syndrome. He made some great advances and had some wonderful opportunities, including that missions trip to Haiti.

Joel
In case the link on the photo doesn't work you can click on this link to see Joel and his buddies longboarding. They recently got sponsored--and so have safety equipment! Keep praying for him as the Lord keeps sending him messengers, prods and people who really care about him.

(Flying kites is traditional in September)

In Memory of ... We praise God for those who support us in prayer and finances. A special thanks for Margery Harper who went to be with the Lord last week. Although we never met this dear lady, she prayed for us, gave toward our support, wrote letters and even called us on the phone ocassionally. Her partnership with us began more than two decades ago. We thank God for her faithfulness. "Well done good and faithful servant..." (from Matthew 25:21)
More next month.
